When nature and time join forces, the result is the Sun King.
Roi Soleil
Vintage 2016
Roi Soleil is Guerdon's vintage expression, produced only in years deemed exceptional. The 2016 edition, 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, spent a minimum of 72 months on the lees: six years of slow, continuous transformation in the dark. It is a wine that rewards both patience and attention, revealing its character in layers rather than all at once.
NOSE
The nose is aromatic and evolved: pastry and fine patisserie open first, underlaid by ripe quince and conference pear. With time in the glass, white flowers emerge alongside mandarin zest, dried pineapple, and a faint thread of ginger that suggests the wine's age without declaring it.
PALATE
The palate is taut and creamy simultaneously, a tension that defines great vintage Champagne. Vibrant freshness threads through mature stone fruit and citrus. The mousse is extremely fine, fully integrated after years of contact. The finish extends through mineral notes and silky lemon zest, closing with length and without haste.
